Gayle Roberts, P.E., President and CEO of Stanley Consultants, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Iowa State University Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE).   Roberts is a 1981 ISU graduate with a degree in chemical engineering.

The CBE Hall of Fame was established in 2013 to commemorate the department's centennial year and to recognize the school’s most successful alumni. This prestigious induction acknowledges the impact they have had on their professions and ISU.  Less than one half of one percent of the department’s 600 alumni have been inducted.

“We are delighted to induct Gayle into the Chemical and Biological Engineering Hall of Fame and have her join this most distinguished group of alumni,” said Andrew C. Hillier,  Professor and Reginald R. Baxter Endowed Department Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.  “She is an outstanding example and role model for our students, particularly women in engineering. We couldn't be happier to call her one of our own, and to recognize her impact on our students and profession.”

After graduating from ISU, Roberts joined Stanley Consultants, Iowa’s largest engineering firm, as a chemical engineer and steadily advanced through the organization. In 2007, she was elected the fifth president in the company’s history and became the first female president of a global consulting engineering firm. In 2012, she was elected chief executive officer. Founded in 1913, Stanley Consultants has a staff of 1000 employees in 30 offices around the world. The firm is ranked among the largest engineering companies in the U.S.

A longtime champion of women in engineering, Roberts regularly encourages young women to consider the field as a viable and exciting career choice. She has served three terms on the ISU Department of CBE Advisory Council, including one year as president. She also served on the board of the University’s Engineering Policy and Leadership Institute and has held board positions at the University of Iowa Engineering College, St. Ambrose University, and Engineers Without Borders. She has been recognized for her efforts promoting women in engineering and the profession with multiple awards.

A plaque in her honor will be placed on the department’s Hall of Fame wall in the Sweeney Hall lobby.
