When the new $200 million Kraft Heinz facility is completed this spring, they may have a new corporate neighbor. Sterilite Corporation has announced its interest in building a new state-of-the-art 2.5 million square foot manufacturing and logistics distribution facility on the certified site adjacent to Kraft Heinz. Sterilite projects the operation would add 500 new jobs over the course of 5 years.

Thanks to the work that this region has been doing to become competitive on a national level, we have now attracted a second major corporate investment in just over a year. Your continued investment in the Quad Cities Chamber ensures we can do this important work of growing our regional economy.

According to a national site location survey, 49% of site decision-makers plan to open a new facility in the next five years. Of these, 85% of new facility expansions will create fewer than 100 jobs. Only 9% of new locations are planned for this part of the country. Our region’s ability to attract two significant investments in the competitive field of economic development speaks volumes to the strong public-private partnerships and a laser focus on putting the Quad Cities atop the competition for talent, jobs, corporate investments and opportunities.

What did it take to get the attention of Sterilite?

Through the Chamber’s business attraction division, Quad Cities First, we work closely with site location consultants, selling the benefits of our region. In May 2016, a site location consultant with whom we regularly work approached us seeking potential locations for this project. We were able to pitch the very things they were seeking because this region has spent years developing the Quad Cities into a more competitive market, including the existence of multiple potential site locations, a skilled workforce, workforce training options, great quality of life and more.

From there, the City of Davenport, Quad Cities Chamber, State of Iowa, Eastern Iowa Community College, Greater Davenport Redevelopment Corporation, Scott County, MidAmerican Energy and Iowa American Water all played important roles in gaining Sterilite’s intent to build in the Quad Cities. Congratulations to all of the partners involved in this project!

While this project is still in the works, pending approval of incentives from the State of Iowa, we are thrilled at the opportunity to welcome Sterilite to our growing manufacturing cluster.
